I own a gun and was a member of the NRA, key word "was"! Mine is locked safely away. Years ago I was convinced by my father to carry it with me while I was in college up north. Never once did I have the need to use it and it was a constant bother because I was always worried it would go off accidentally. I sold that gun and got a smaller one that suited me better. I bought it at a gun show, paid cash, no background check, I offered my DL and he said, "naw that's okay, you look fine". You look fine????? I now have a alarm system in my home that costs $20 a month. I was broken into 6 months ago while at home, the thief heard the alarm and quickly left. Even if I had my gun in the nightstand it would not of worked that fast and I would of had to shoot someone if I did not have that wonderful alarm. I really don't want to shoot anyone. So I will keep the gun locked up, continue to pay for the alarm and discourage guns shows until they get it right.

Tim and Ed, Old school style teachers are becoming a thing of the past but I blame our system for not keeping up with pay and benefits and allowing vouchers to bleed dry our school system. You end up with tired, overworked, underpaid people who will have no particular loyalty to the school system. Why should they be loyal when they are getting the shaft at every turn. People who are upset tend to make mistakes. Also, when you have a school system as dysfunctional as ours they make bad hiring choices. Bad teachers do bad things. Bad Administrators also do bad things! The Pinellas County School system is top heavy and really wants to do nothing about it! It's gotta start at the top. Poor leadership will cause the ship to sink! Let's make teaching a desired profession again and clean up our failing system!

  • On the article Could the Blue Jays Really Leave Dunedin?

Karen Burton's article that she shared in an earlier post says it all. If you want the team to stay, then great! But lets stop pretending its the end of the world if they leave and lets start really trying to live within our means. That article has the statistics and they do not favor the Jays. On a side note, why is there no loyalty from the Jay's! We have been there for them for 36 years! This is how they thank us for our hospitality? Is it really just about money? If so, that is very sad and means the Jays have no heart! If it is all about money then I say cut our losses now and let them find somewhere else to play next year! I mean my ex-husband treated me better than this! Wake up Dunedin!

Had I known the money I donated was going to GLASS instead of books I would've not donated, I will not make that mistake again. If the area is loud it means the people are rude and need to be redirected in their behavior! Libraries in major cities who have 1000's coming and going do not have sound issues like this, 100's sitting and reading in the same room, in fact in rooms large enough to house 4 of our libraries with very little sound. Someday remind me how we always seem to choose the easy way instead of the correct way!

Funny thing is this is already a law, maybe not well defined but a law. This new law will give police a bit more bite. When possible drivers need to safely pass these people and not just ride behind them further backing up traffic. That all being said I have to remind myself we have lots and lots of visitors who ride around in awe of what we take for granted everyday so I try to smile and just pass them (all the time mumbling things they can't hear lol).

Mr. Harris, I totally get your point. If we are so bent on safeguarding or spouting the pretense of safeguarding such things as transvaginal ultrasounds for abortions, not having strip club to close to a school, oversight committees for Benghazi and so on then why is it such a far reach to have background checks on all guns sales! All these issues are connected from a safety stand point. All require proper objective choices be made without influence to or from Party, religion or rhetoric. There are many many licensed business's that we should not allow to be in our stadium or community center and Gun shows, under the current lack of restrictions is one of them. Adam, thank you for stating the obvious about the City Manager, (who happens to be a very level headed guy) my guess is the person you answered will not like your answer and just find another way of restating it.

People all over the country are saying the same thing! Stop the insanity! The disgust seen in Dunedin is no different anywhere else and people are speaking out! While idiots obsess over Benghazi and waste time because it burns them up we have a black president and regardless of common sense they oppose anything he says like, "hot dogs taste good" then they say, "hot dogs have always tasted bad and are the devil". We are moving forward! We will move forward with or without Congress, with or without Governor Scott, with or without the NRA. You can be part of the solution or just part of our storied regretful past either way we will move forward. and in Dunedin we will do it without having gun shows in our community center!

I very much like what Mr. Harris wrote in his blog about guns! I only wish the Patch had left it up longer than one day! It would seem Tips from the BBB are more important to the Patch than our local writers!

Here I will answer your question since you clear don't get! It's not a moral business! We don't need guns we don't want gun and were not gonna let you or anyone else sell guns in this manner around here! We have a couple of local gun dealers who do an excellent job of not letting criminal, insane or questionable people get guns. We appreciate the good job they do! Want a gun? Go to them! Otherwise get lost! There! Is that clear enough for you!
