Gulfport Police are reminding people to lock vehicles after three were burglarized in Gulfport this past weekend. That and more in "5 Things to Know Today."
Burglaries: The Gulfport Police Department is warning citizens about three vehicle burglaries that happened over the weekend. According to their Facebook post, all three cars were unlocked and had valuables in plain view. Officials are asking people to remove or conceal valuables and lock cars. Veterans Dance Benefit: Tickets are on sale now for the Veteran's Day Dance and Benefit on Sunday, November 11 with live band Steel Horse, at the Gulfport Casino Ballroom. The dance is the premier event for the "Heroes Weekend" and will help raise money for the Veterans Law Institute and Paws for Patriots program. In a shaded spot adjacent to the Outpost in downtown Gulfport, Sandy Duffy carefully hangs an armload of colorful castoffs. Shading her eyes, she looks up and smiles. “It’s a nice day for our clothing swap,” Duffy said. Julia Durocher folded blue jeans and counted off vouchers while Duffy focused on customers. Donations at the swap benefit the Community Action Stops Abuse (CASA) in St. Petersburg, a non-profit organization offering shelter and counseling services to survivors of abuse and domestic violence. A fixture at the Fresh Market, the clothing swap is held on the second Tuesday of each month, from 9 a.m. until noon.
