Video: Debby Causes Coastal Flooding
High tide and rough winds flood streets in downtown Gulfport again. Businesses on Beach and Shore piled up sandbags on Tuesday in the hopes of keeping their shops and restaurants dry.
GULFPORT - A handful of downtown businesses are closed this morning as the rising tide sends water into streets, buildings and patios on Shore Boulevard in Gulfport. A handwritten note on Stella's said the local restaurant would reopen at 9:30 a.m. Gulfport Police Officers set up barricades on Beach Boulevard, however drivers went around them. Around 9 a.m. officers reinforced the signs with yellow caution tape. The Gulfport Beach is closed today, as well as the Tuesday Fresh Market. A few onlookers came out this morning to snap photos and check out the surge. Gulfport City Manager Jim O'Reilly says sand and bags are still available at the City Hall parking lot.
