Neighbors Celebrate National Night Out

Children received free finger prints, officers dished out BBQ and students "graduated" from the Gulfport Police Citizens Academy during National Night Out in Gulfport.

"The best thing you can do is know your neighbor," Gulfport Police Chief Robert Vincent said. Chief Robert Vincent and Mayor Mike Yakes welcomed families, friends and neighbors at the Gulfport Neighborhood Center on Tuesday night. Dozens of people of all ages came out to learn more about the department's Special Enforcement Team, Marine Unit and even the Pinellas County Mobile Crime Scene Investigation Unit.  Gulfport Police Officer Jennifer Crowson helped children fill out free fingerprint kits for moms and dads while members of the Gulfport Police Explorers Post #995 handed out information packets to those in attendance. National Night Out to Promote Crime Awareness

The Gulfport Police will be participating in the 29th Annual National Night Out on August 7th. You're all invited to the event!

The National Night Out event is designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and are fighting back.  This year's National Night Out event in Gulfport will take place at the Gulfport Neighborhood Center, located at 1617 49th Street South.  The event will kick off at 6:30 pm and end at 9:00 pm with a group walk that will be an example of the commitment between community and law enforcement against crime/criminals.  This event will include the following: The National Night Out program is an initiative of The National Association of Town Watch. …

Photo Gallery: Gulfport Police Department Open House

As part of National Night Out the Gulfport Police Department invited the public to see what goes on behind the scenes. Several Gulfport residents came out for an open house and tour of the station Tuesday night.

More than two dozen people came out to chat with Gulfport Police Chief Robert Vincent and several officers at the Gulfport Police Department's Open House on Tuesday, August 2, 2011. The public met with members of the Gulfport Explorers Post 995, got to see squad cars and the department's boat up close. They also received a personal tour of the station, including the interrogation rooms, communications center and jail cells.
