As the economy declined in 2008, and the Industrial Art Center's finances collapsed, Lynn DiVenuti & Amy Oatley took over management. Acting as Board President, Treasurer, & Secretary, DiVenuti, with Oatley as her Executive Director, focused almost exclusively on operations & revenue generation during that difficult period. After successfully concluding the popular IAC Chili Cookoff fundraising event in September, DiVenuti & Oatley retired, turning over the reins to a restructured Board of Directors. Local artists Jonathan Schork and Stone Handy participated in a film project that will be shown at Muvico later this week.
With only 48 hours to create, produce and drop off a film, a group of locals used Gulfport as home base for their shooting location. The cinema will be used for the Tampa Bay chapter of a world wide organization, the 48 Hour Film Project. Groups were expected to create a film, from the script to the editing room, that will be showcased on Tuesday night. The Gulfport group drew their movie genre out of a hat on Friday evening. ". . . On My Mind" is a burst of "in your face" comedy, contradictions and emotions. Expect the unexpected by Three Muses & A Fool Productions in Artists Alley.

Actors throw themselves into true love, passion, too-good-to-be-true love, obsession, weakness and more. Producer, Director and Actor Ciara Carinci has been sharing her talents with Gulfport for the past 10 years. Carinci and fellow actor Peter Suarez are known for "theater walk" performances. I attended a performance on Friday night and found ". . . On My Mind" to be brilliant. Each short play was filled …

While business experts will tell you location is the key to success, Jonathan Schork's studio's hidden location provides the allure to attract artists and guests alike. The "schork~munsell studios 2" recently opened at 5437 29th Ave S, Gulfport and is only accessible from the alley. It's located in between Owen Pach's and Victoria Wenner's studios in what is quickly becoming known as "Artist Alley." In less than three months, 48-year-old Jonathan Schork went from looking at the building space to moving in and creating a gallery and studio. Schork says Owen Pach and Victoria Wenner helped him settle in Gulfport. His first studio, "schork~munsell studios," has been located in Big Pine Key for more than 20 years. After spending time in …
