Introducing The Industrial Arts Center of Gulfport

The Industrial Arts Center in Gulfport is changing it's name to the "Industrial Arts Center of Gulfport." That's not all, stop in and see the shop's new arrangements and improvements.

Stop in and see the new and improved hot shop at the Industrial Arts Center of Gulfport! Board President Owen Pach is inviting everyone to stop in and see the new layout. The center closed down earlier this month for renovations. During that time, Pach says he and a group of dedicated volunteers rearranged the shop, added more space for a gallery and built new equipment. Pach says adjustments on the furnace door and annealer. He says improvements with the furnace door will make the process more efficient and even save them money in the long run. After all, the furnace needs to reach 2,300 degrees to hold the melted glass. The center is up and running and will be open tonight during the First Friday Art Walk from 6 - 10 p.m. Pach says they'…

Owen Pach actually handed me the blow pipe at the Industrial Arts Center!

The Industrial Arts Center opened it's doors in September 2008 and has been igniting inspiration for people of all ages ever since. Throughout the years, people have been able to come and learn how to blow their own glass paperweights, vessels, vases and even ornaments during the holidays. The non-profit center also offers courses in sculptural welding, glass fusing and metalsmithing. Currently, the center is offering a promotion through the first week of January. Stop by any Tuesday through Thursday between 6 and 9 p.m. and you can blow your very own one-of-a-kind glass ornament for just $20. No appointments are needed! To show just how easy it is to create a masterpiece, I put my skills to the test. Yes, Owen Pach allowed me to roll hot …

Industrial Arts Center Welcomes New Board Members

By Jonathan Schork

A familiar fixture in the artists’ courtyard on Beach Boulevard since 2008, the IAC has restructured its Board of Directors as it prepares to move forward in broadening its scope as a community asset. As the economy declined in 2008, and the Industrial Art Center's finances collapsed, Lynn DiVenuti & Amy Oatley took over management. Acting as Board President, Treasurer, & Secretary, DiVenuti, with Oatley as her Executive Director, focused almost exclusively on operations & revenue generation during that difficult period. After successfully concluding the popular IAC Chili Cookoff fundraising event in September, DiVenuti & Oatley retired, turning over the reins to a restructured Board of Directors. Award winning glass blower & GMA vice-…
