Were you at the human chain on Sunday? Phil Bishop was and he took a few photos of the historic event at Gulfport Beach. Council member Dan Liedtke helped organize the helicopter photos with Boatpix.com to be used for future marketing campaigns for the City of Gulfport. Gulfport Parade Honors Veterans

Dozens of people lined the streets of Gulfport and cheered for veterans, organizations and other participants in the second annual Veterans Day Parade in downtown Gulfport on Saturday. Army Lt. Col. Kathy Champion, an Afghanistan and Iraq War veteran and Gulfport native who received a service dog from the Paws for Patriots program was invited to be the grand marshal this year. Several local organizations like the American Legion Andy Anderson Post 125, Gulfport Area Chamber of Commerce and Veterans of South Pinellas County tossed beads and candy into the crowd. City departments also joined in the parade. Mayor Mike Yakes waved the American Flag high, Gulfport's recycling department sounded off and firefighters with the Gulfport Fire …

(VIDEO) Wounded Vet Honors Fallen Soldier

VETSports Vice President and wounded veteran Brian Taylor Urruela is helping raise money for veterans and his friend, Major David Taylor, who was killed in action in Iraq.

Brian Taylor Urruela, Vice President of VETSports, is going to hit the volleyball courts on Sunday, Nov. 11 for the Inaugural Beach Volleyball Benefit. Members of the Gulfport Police Department and Fire Department will face off against veterans with VETSports to help raise money for the non-profit wounded vets and the Tampa family of Major David Taylor. Brian Urruela was serving with Major David Taylor in Iraq in 2006 when an improvised explosive device hit their Humvee. Urruela survived the attack but had his right leg amputated below the knee as a result of the injuries. His friend did not. The explosion happened just two days before they were to return home. Steel Horse to Rock the Ballroom During Heroes Weekend

Get your tickets today and watch Steel Horse perform at the Gulfport Casino Ballroom on Veteran's Day. Plus, proceeds will benefit The Stetson Veterans Law Institute, Paws for Patriots and other Veteran charities.

Celebrate Veteran's Day with raffles, live music, dancing and more at the Gulfport Casino Ballroom. Listen to today's country and rock music by Steel Horse. The benefit concert and dance will help raise money for The Stetson Veterans Law Institute, Paws for Patriots and various Veteran charities on Sunday, Nov. 11. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the concert from 7 - 11 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased at the door.

Dedication This Weekend for Playground and Volleyball Courts

Gulfport Beach is looking better and better with waterfront improvements for children and adults.

Everyone is invited to come out to two dedication ceremonies on Sunday, Nov. 11 starting at 11:30 a.m. The new beach playground is located near the Gulfport Recreation Center and the volleyball courts near the Gulfport Casino Ballroom have doubled. The Gulfport City Council unanimously approved waterfront upgrades for $120,000 in July. The upgrades include a new playground closer to the Rec Center and expanding the beach volleyball courts near the Gulfport Casino Ballroom. Funding came from the Capitol Improvement Program budget through the use of Pennies for Pinellas funds. Salsa Social Dance: The Salsa Social Dance is tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the Gulfport Casino Ballroom. Lessons are first with Carol Rivera and then general dancing begins at 8 p.m. Admission is $7 per person. The Gulfport Community Players: The group will be running a J.M. Synge Irish drama entitled, The Playboy of the Western World, from Nov. 8 - 18. The play will run at the Hickman Theater, located at 26th Ave. S. and Beach Blvd. in Gulfport, FL. The second annual Heroes Weekend kicks off tonight with a casino night at the Gulfport Casino Ballroom. Here's what you need to know about all of the weekend events!

Vegas Style Fundraiser The Gulfport Casino Ballroom will turn into a high-stakes gambling casino with Vegas style games including poker, blackjack, roulette, craps, slot machines and Texas hold'em. Enjoy auctions, hors d'oeuvres, a full cash bar and live music. Proceeds benefit the Small Business Mentor Program at the Gulfport Area Chamber of Commerce and the Gulfport Multipurpose Senior Center Foundation.
