5 Things to Know Today

5 Things to Know in Gulfport: Lost Dog, Free Coffee, Operation Medicine Cabinet

Drop off unused medications today, fill up your coffee cup and be on the lookout for a lost dog. That and more in "5 Things to Know Today."

Lost Dog: Pamela Prell posted information about her missing Minature Doberman Pincher, who's been gone for about a week in our "Lost and Found" section of our "Announcements" tab on the homepage. 5 Things to Know This Weekend: Art Walk, Film Screening, Gulfport Pirates

It's the weekend! So get out in Gulfport and enjoy it. Here's what you need to know this weekend.

Art Walk: The Third Saturday Art Walk kicks off at 6 p.m. and will feature a street performer as part of the art initiative by the Gulfport Merchants Association. That's right, come out to shop and be entertained in downtown Gulfport. Film Screening: Stop by the Art Village Courtyard at 8 p.m. Saturday night for a free screening of "A Rose for Cecile." The short film was shot in the Alley of the Arts in July and was submitted as part of the 48-hour-film project. Now, the public can come see what local artists and actors produced. Gulfport Pirates: Everyone is invited to the Gulfport Pirates home game at Boca Ciega High School on Saturday at 9 a.m. Organizers are also looking for local business sponsorships. New Youth Football and Cheerleading League in Gulfport

The Gulfport Pirates is a new organization that will allow kids to partake in the popular sport and compete against other teams in Pinellas County.

Children ages 4-14 are invited to participate in Gulfport's new youth football league. Home games will take place in Pinellas County, and the season starts on Aug. 25th. Practice begins in June, so that the kids can get in game shape.  A cheerleading program is being offered through the new league. The Gulfport Pirates are accepting registration materials and deposits from interested parties. Parents can visit the Pirates online to download the registration packet.  Volunteers are also invited to contact the Gulfport Pirates at (727)266-2207, as assistance will be needed in a variety of areas. I'm a cheer coach at the local high school and I absolutely love what I do! With this year coming to a close, I've been researching and making plans for this coming fall.
