Gulfport Hardware Owner Faces New Charges

David Cretella was arrested and charged with arson in October last year. While awaiting trial, Cretellas was recently arrested on drug charges.

The owner of Gulfport Hardware, David Cretella, already awaiting trial for a felony arson charge following the burning of his shop in October 2012, has been arrested again, this time on drug charges, according to police. Cretella, 64, of Seminole, had already posted $10,000 bail for arson in the second degree following the fire at his shop, at 5006 Gulfport Blvd. S. Cretella entered a "not guilty" plea and waived his right to a speedy trial, according to Gulfport Police. He has a pre-trial hearing set on June 11 at 8:30 a.m. But in an unrelated incident, Cretella was arrested by Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies Friday, May 10, and charged with possession of methadone, possession of a controlled substance, possession of diazepam and …

Police Shoot Suspects in Car Stolen in Gulfport

St. Petersburg Police say that the driver of a stolen Nissan tried to run down officers.

Two suspects in a vehicle reported stolen in Gulfport were shot by St. Petersburg Police Monday. St. Petersburg Police say that the vehicle drove directly at officers, striking one of them, according to St. Petersburg Police. Officer Brandon Bill suffered minor injuries, when the vehicle drove past the officers, who were trying to take the occupants into custody, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department. Shaquelle F. Sweat, the 19-year-old driver, was shot in the arm. A 16-year-old female passenger was wounded in the shoulder, according to police. Police: Men Cashed Stolen Checks, Pawned Stolen Tools

Gulfport Police Chief Robert Vincent says two men were arrested on multiple charges including: breaking into a vehicle, stealing checks and cashing them. The two also took tools and pawned them, according to police.

Gulfport Police say George Englund and Kyle Bult were arrested on multiple charges after they cashed stolen checks and worked together to pawn stolen tools. According to Gulfport Police Chief Robert Vincent, George V. Englund, 40, a transient of St. Petersburg, broke into a vehicle in the 5600 block of 16th Avenue South on March 8. Police say he stole tools and a checkbook, "among other things." Then, Englund forged the checks, and he and Kyle Bult, 63, of St. Petersburg, cashed the checks at several locations, police say. Because Englund did not have a valid I.D., police say Bult pawned the stolen tools. Between the two of them, there is one count of burglary, one count of grand theft, one count of dealing in stolen property, seven counts…
