The Gulfport Area Chamber of Commerce is gathering volunteers to represent the City of Gulfport at the Pinellas County Fair, March 20 - 24. That's not all, the chamber is also seeking volunteers for multiple year-round tasks. If you are retired and looking to use your business acumen in helping local business start ups; if you have skills in bookkeeping or administrative management, or just looking to meet new people, the chamber wants to hear from you. Organizers are inviting local artists to create a three-part mural representing Gulfport; it’s history and the community.
The official announcement of the project will be in December, however, organizers want to get the word out now to encourage artists to get involved and invite more sponsors to join. The project will consist of three murals located on the north and west walls of Liberty Tax and Piranha Graphix Signs in the Gulfport Square Business Center off 49th St. and Gulfport Blvd. The mural will welcome visitors to Gulfport and also bring awareness to the Gulfport Area Chamber of Commerce’s new location. The South 49th St. Business Association, Gulfport Area Chamber of Commerce, Gulfport Merchants Association, Liberty Tax, Piranha Graphix Signs and J DeFoe Suncoast Properties are co-sponsoring this project. Gamblers didn't have to fly to Las Vegas to hear the chims of slot machines and rolling the dice among a cheering crowd! The Historic Gulfport Casino Ballroom turned into a Vegas-style casino on Thursday, Nov 8 as part of a fundraiser for the Gulfport Area Chamber of Commerce and Gulfport Senior Center. That's right! There will be Las Vegas style gambling at the Historic Gulfport Casino Ballroom tonight starting at 7:30 tonight.
On Thursday, November 8th, the Gulfport Casino Ballroom will turn into a high-stakes gambling casino with Vegas style games including poker, blackjack, roulette, craps, slot machines and Texas hold'em. Buy ins include $1000 each in "funny money" and can be increased. Enjoy auctions, hors d'oeuvres, a full cash bar and live music. The event begins at 7:30 with doors opening at 7 p.m. The price is $20, $35 a couple in advance and $25 at the door. Proceeds benefit the Small Business Mentor Program at the Gulfport Area Chamber of Commerce and the Gulfport Multipurpose Senior Center Foundation. For more than six years the market has lured people downtown with as many as 3,000 stopping by the market during peak months. Now, by popular demand, organizers are extending the hours on the first Tuesday of the month to 8 p.m. starting in October; current hours are from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. “I think it’s the next stage in the evolution of the success of our market,” Fresh Market Coordinator Daniel Hodge said.
