From North Carolina to Gulfport and now the Willis', Chap is a well traveled pup who's fitting in already!
"Good boy Chap," Robert said as we walked our 3-month-old puppy to the dog park at Crescent Lake Tuesday night. Just three days earlier we couldn't get him to walk 3 feet on a leash and now he's leading us around like he owns the place. My husband Robert and I walked through the large dog park gates and unhooked his leash, when all but 5 seconds later; three huge dogs sprinted over to Chap and huddled around him. He just sat there, sniffed a little, but otherwise he just observed. That's his nickname, "The Observer." We really lucked out finding this gem for our first dog! That's our Chap! One animal rescue organization netted 11 adoptions as a result of the 9th Annual Gulfport's Get Rescued pet street festival.
Animal rescue organizations return year after year to the Gulfport's Get Rescued pet street festival to find forever homes for their furry friends. Friends of Pep Border Collie Rescue were among the groups set up on Beach Boulevard on Saturday, Feb. 23 with puppies and dogs ready for adoption. Katie Scott was happy to report they had adopted out 11 dogs as a result of the event. Scott says that includes day-of adoptions and adoptions that followed on Sunday after the event. "We just want to find them good homes," she said. Friends of Pep Board Collie Rescue started in 2007 and has placed 12,800 animals from high kill shelters up and down the East Coast. The 9th Annual Gulfport's Get Rescued event introduced numerous attendees to their new best friends.
Gulfport was full of wagging tails as the annual pet street festival filled Beach Boulevard this past Saturday, February 23. Thousands of people came to the event and some found new friends in the form of animals during the day. "It's not just a pet. It becomes part of your family," said Alexis Huzzard of Rugaz Rescue. The 9th Annual Gulfport's Get Rescued fundraiser is expected to lure thousands to the city on Saturday, Feb. 23. The all day free event has evolved from one block and a handful of animal rescue groups in its first year to a popular and festive event representing rescue groups from throughout the region. Here's what you need to know if you plan on coming to the event. Daytime Event: Gulfport's Get Rescued is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in downtown Gulfport on Beach Boulevard. It's free to the public. Are you ready for dogs, cats, and other furry friends to take over downtown Gulfport? The ninth annual animal rescue festival and fundraiser, Gulfport's Get Rescued is less than a month away! Mark your calendars: This popular event has evolved from one block and a handful of animal rescue groups in its first year to a popular and festive event representing as many as 60 animal rescue groups from throughout the region. Gulfport's Get Rescued is one of the largest animal rescue events in the state, with all profits to benefit participating non-profit rescue groups.
