Two Gibbs High School Students Arrested on Drug, Gun Charges

One suspect had crack cocaine and a large amount of cash, police said, and there was a semi-automatic gun in the other suspect's locker.

Two 11th-grade students at Gibbs High School have been arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and possession of a firearm on school property.  According to police, officers responded to the school and met with Gibbs High School administrators after authorities received a tip about a gun in the school. School officials began searching lockers in the school while officers began an investigation to determine the identity of the students. Police detained the first suspect near his locker and found Hydromorphone, crack cocaine and more than $1,400 in cash in the pockets of his jacket. Free Meals Provided to Children in Pinellas County

All children 18 years old and younger can eat for free this summer at multiple sites throughout Pinellas County including Gibbs High School.

All children 18 years old and younger can eat for free, regardless of their economic situation. There are multiple sites throughout Pinellas County where meals will be available during certain dates and times. Summer Break Spot is a federal nutrition program sponsored locally by Pinellas County Health and Human Services and Pinellas County Schools.  Most sites serve a maximum of two meals per day or a meal and a snack. Many sites offer free meals to all children under the age of 18, regardless of economic situation. Other sites, where children are enrolled in a summer program, offer the meals to children in the program. In Gulfport Hamilton Disston School, 5125 11th Ave S, Gulfport, will be providing free meal service to students enrolled …

Photo Gallery: Hands Across Pinellas

High school cross-country runners started In Tarpon Springs and St. Petersburg and met in Largo for the kickoff of the Pinellas County School's Centennial Celebration.

The Pinellas County Schools turned 100 this year. The community joined 20 high school cross-country runners to kick off the Centennial Celebration Saturday morning. The students traveled the Pinellas Trail in pairs starting in Tarpon Springs and St. Petersburg and meeting in Largo's Taylor Park.  The cross-county teams also made stops in Palm Harbor and Seminole. From the north the Tarpon Springs High School team surrounded by cheers in the parking lot of Sweetbay traveled with the Tarpon Springs Mayor David Archie. From the south, the team from Gibbs and Lakewood High Schools in St. Petersburg heard the roar of rollerblades as skaters headed north with them. Boca Ciega students brought the southern torch in for the final leg into Taylor …
