Cool Cars at the So Classic Car Show

Hundreds came out to show support for the charity car show Saturday, at the Tangerine Greenway in Gulfport.

The So Classic Car Show was staged at Tangerine Greenway on 49th St. S. and 18th Ave. Saturday. Hosted by the So49 Business Association, the event brought people to the 49th Street South area for a day of fun and family-friendly activities. Beneficiaries that received a boost from the event included the Suncoast Law Enforcement Charities, Gulfport Teen Council and the Gulfport Police Explorers. Admission to the show was free, and guests were able to enjoy food from local vendors, live music and a just-for-kids play area. Show contestants lined the park, so car-junkies could indulge in the up-close and personal view of the classics. Local Youths Conduct a Bike Drive for a Good Cause

It’s been a few weeks since YNOT Youth Ministries started collecting bikes and the group is well on its way to providing transportation for a slew of lucky individuals.

Every Christmas, the YNOT Youth Group feeds the homeless at William’s Park. This past holiday conversations about transportation sparked the crew’s idea to help out in a creative and hands-on way. “We were talking to the homeless people and found that lack of transportation causes a lot of obstacles,” said Youth Minister, Nick Harper. A unlimited bus pass on the PSTA system costs $65 a month. Seniors pay $35. For someone with no income who is trying to get back on their feet, purchasing a bus pass is a luxury. YNOT Ministries brainstormed after their Christmas experience in William’s Park. “We thought, if we get bikes and fix them up, then we will have bikes to give away as transportation,’” Harper said. Talking with Nick Harper right now at T and Me! Nick says they've received at least a dozen donated bikes for their project. They are still in great need of a location to store the bikes and to work on them. He's hoping that someone can donate a storage unit or one car garage for them to use. He's incredibly optimistic about their new project!   more ›
