Gulfport voters will choose the next council member for Ward Two today, Tuesday March 8, 2011. Both candidates have been campaigning non-stop for your votes. Take a look at who's helped finance their efforts.  Here's a look at contributions for both candidates as of Friday March  4, 2011.  Barbara Banno has received a total of $6,489.16 in campaign contributions. Banno has spent $3,853.59. Avrio Taylor has received a total of $3,434.25 and has spent $2,615.58. Vice Mayor Michele King Endorses Avrio Taylor

Ward Two Vice Mayor Michele King announced her endorsement for Avrio Taylor for Ward Two Gulfport City Council Member.

Ward Two Vice Mayor Michele King announced her endorsement of Avrio Taylor for the Gulfport City Council. The Municipal Elections are on Tuesday March 8, 2011. Avrio Taylor is running against Barbara Banno for the Ward Two City Council seat. In a letter from Ward Two Vice Mayor Michele King sent to Gulfport Patch, King explained why she is endorsing a candidate. "In the beginning of this campaign I felt it wasn’t my place to endorse a candidate in the Gulfport city council race" King wrote. "Now after reading the advertisement one of the candidates placed in the Gabber this week, I feel compelled to state my endorsement of the only candidate that has run an honest issue orientated campaign, Avrio Taylor." Foreclosures and a Civil Suit Pending for Both Ward Two Candidates

Ward Two City Council Candidates are named as defendants in several pending civil lawsuits.

Many questions from the public were brought up on Thursday Feb. 3 at the League of Women Voters Candidates Forum at City Hall. Gulfport City Council Ward Two Candidates Barbara Banno and Avrio Taylor were in attendance to educate people about their campaign and goals for the city. Among the questions asked were, “Are you a party to any pending litigation, directly or indirectly?” Avrio Taylor answered “no” and Barbara Banno answered “yes, my corporation”. Gulfport Patch has learned that according to court documents, both candidates are defendants in more than one pending civil case. According to Pinellas County Public Records Banno is listed as a defendant in a pending civil contract suit filed by Colleen Murphy, a former employee of Banno…

Gulfport City Council Ward Two Candidate Avrio Taylor and his campaign supporters gathered Sunday night at Pia's Trattoria in downtown, little more than a week away from the election. Approximately 25 residents and supporters chatted inside and outside the restaurant, enjoying food, lending support and exchanging news from around town in anticipation of the upcoming vote against fellow democrat Barbara Banno. Supporters gathered Tuesday night to raise money for the Barbara Banno for Gulfport City Council Campaign.

Controlled growth and better communication in town were common themes echoed by supporters of Gulfport City Council candidate Barbara Banno at the Peninsula Inn & Spa Tuesday night. The candidate hosted a silent auction at the Inn to raise funds for her campaign and food donations for the Gulfport Senior Center Pantry. More than 25 were in attendance for the casual gathering in the lounge as Ms. Banno's Campaign Manager, Gina Burke, greeted guests on the front porch of the historic setting on Beach Blvd.  "Coming together as a community again. City Council Candidates Address Issues at Gulfport Democratic Club Forum

Ward Two Gulfport City Council Candidates Avrio Taylor and Barbara Banno answered questions from the public on Thursday night during a Meet the Candidates Forum sponsored by the Gulfport Democratic Club.

More than 50 people came out Thursday night to listen and ask questions at the Meet the Candidate Forum sponsored by the Gulfport Democratic Club. Ward Two Gulfport City Council candidates Barbara Banno and Avrio Taylor discussed economic development, the future of Gulfport and giving back to the community. Both candidates were asked how they would vote on the PACE Ordinance if they were a member of the council today. Barbara Banno said she has concerns about the questions that were left unanswered at the last City Council meeting, but despite the looming questions she thinks the program has "a lot of merit". “Do I think it’s gonna bring more businesses? Banno Distancing Taylor ... in Campaign Contributions

In documents released by the city of Gulfport, city council candidate Barbara Banno appears to have a better financial foothold in campaign contributions than her opponent Avrio Taylor.

Documents released by the city of Gulfport show that city council candidate Barbara Banno leads her opponent, Avrio Taylor, in campaign contributions. Per the state of Florida's Division of Elections, Banno received campaign contributions totaling $925.21 as of Dec. 31, 2010. During the same time period, Taylor has $300.25 in campaign contributions. Additionally, per the same documents, Taylor has taken out a $100.25 loan to help finance his campaign. Banno has received no such loan, though she donated a total of $40.68 of her own money in two separate transactions to her campaign. Of the 11 separate contributions to Banno's campaign coffers, it appears her most popular contributors are family members, including those out of state. Joseph …
