Deputy Jason Shoulta died Friday after an accident in Pasco County.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office lost one of its own Friday in a motorcycle accident: Deputy Jason Shoulta. The 43-year-old officer died from injuries suffered in a crash in Pasco County Friday afternoon. In a message to members of the Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Robert Gualtieri said: "Our thoughts and prayers are with Jason's family and friends. There is no sense that can be made of such a tragedy and no words that can make this easier on anyone." According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred near the intersection of Perrine Ranch Road and County Road 77 (Seven Springs Road). Hundreds gathered Wednesday to memorialize a family physician who worked in St. Petersburg for three decades. Dr. Theresa Elaine McLaughlin died in a skydiving incident on New Year's Day.
"It's a huge loss, we're going to feel this for years," mourner Julie Nastasiak said Wednesday, as she left the wake for Dr. Theresa Elaine McLaughlin-Wrage. Nastasiak was a loyal patient of McLaughlin-Wrage for nearly 30 years. Wednesday, she bid a tearful farewell to the healer who also was her friend. "She treated everybody like family," Nastasiak said. Nastasiak's comments were echoed by hundreds of mourners who gathered Wednesday at Anderson-McQueen, a St. Petersburg funeral home, many of them in shock, for the wake of the doctor, killed in a skydiving mishap. A well-known Gulfport physician has died in a skydiving accident, according to news reports. Dr. Theresa Elaine McLaughlin, 60, of Gulfport died while skydiving on New Year's Day in Zephyrhills, according to TampaBay.com. McLaughlin was in family practice at Suncoast Medical Clinic in St. Petersburg, according to the news report. She had been a doctor for 34 years. She was a graduate of the University of South Florida College of Medicine. She did her residency in family practice at Bayfront Medical Center in 1981. Zephyrhills police are releasing few details of the incident. McLaughlin died as a result of trauma, according to a medical exmainer's report.

Tuesday nights in Gulfport only mean one thing . . . rhythm and blues at the Peninsula Inn. For the past few years, Sterling Magee and the Harlem Blues Band helped pack the house with “Mississippi Blues” and popular oldies like “Mustang Sally.” The entertainment at last night’s show was not different, however the line-up was. The band was short an original member, Dave Laycock, known to many as “Dave on Drums”, wasn’t present. “This is how he would have wanted it,” Zach Laycock, Dave’s Godson, said. Last night, friends, family and band members paid tribute to one of their own. Dave passed away on November 14 at the age of 60 in Gulfport. Hundreds turn out on Friday morning to talk about what the former Tampa Bay Buccaneer meant to them.
Although his body will be laid to rest in the state where he was born, hundreds of people in Tampa Bay gathered on Friday morning to honor the life of Lee Roy Selmon and his impact on the community during a memorial service at Idlewild Baptist Church. Selmon, 56, died on Sunday after suffering a stroke. During the service at the Lutz church, friends, family members and public officials spoke of the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers star and USF athletic director's impact on their lives. They remembered him as a man of integrity and a philanthropist who was devoted to his wife and three children.
