Where else can you play volleyball on the beach, then head across the street for a pint of English ale? Proprietor Dave Sailes ran Pints and Pastimes in St. Pete Beach for 13 years before opening The Village Pub in 2009. Here you discover authentic British food. The pub-style offerings are wonderful, without the rainy, foggy weather. This is a waterfront restaurant with a cozy bar, with Brit beers on tap. Fish and chips is the specialty of the house, made with cod and haddock. Also on the menu are shepherd's pie, bangers and mash and a variety of rich desserts. There is even authentic British sausage and, for those who love it, Liver, Bacon & Onions. Wednesday nights are BOGO for most everything on the menu; come early because there may be a line out the door. Magi Sailes, Dave's wife, is co-owner, hostess extraordinaire. Try the Steak & Ale Pie, Magi says. It's delicious.
