The Gulfport Fire Department, founded in 1925, serves more than 12,500 residents living within three square miles in the city. The department operates three shifts with four firefighters per shift. Prior to 1920, Gulfport Fire Rescue was an all volunteer department. Now, there are 13 firefighters including Fire Chief James V. Marenkovic.
