This Week in Gulfport: Tiki Time, Council Meeting, Save the Snakes?

Here's what you need to know this week in Gulfport!

Tiki Time: The Gulfport Senior Center is hosting a luau on Wednesday, August 21 at 1 p.m. Come out for a Hula dance demonstration, Hawaiian music and more!

Gulfport City Council: The regular city council meeting is 7 p.m. Tuesday night at Gulfport City Hall. Can't make it? Be sure to watch the meeting live on this link. Also, check out the agenda online on the city's website.

Save the Snakes?: Three species of snake – the short-tailed, pine snake and hognose – once prevalent in Central Florida are now rather rare sightings. The state wants the federal government to add them to the endangered species list and it’s asking for residents’ help to make it so. Check out the story on TBO to find out how to report sightings of these rare, elusive and often unwelcomed critters.

Buses Back in Action: A brand new school year gets under way this week and that means an army of yellow buses will be hitting the streets of Tampa Bay. Keep an eye out for them and the precious cargo they’re trucking around. To all the kids out there: Have a great year!

Scattered Thunderstorms: Looks like it'll be partly sunny with a high of 91. We also have a 40 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms - mainly after 2 p.m. For a complete look at this week's forecast, check out the National Weather Service.
