Help Clean up Downtown Gulfport Today

Everyone is invited to lend and hand and help beautify downtown Gulfport today, Saturday, June 30 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

When Tropical Storm Debby lingered in the Gulf of Mexico strong winds, high surf and non-stop rain flooded downtown Gulfport on Sunday. Beach and Shore Boulevards are prone to flooding because the intersection is lower than other streets, but this time, flood waters made their way into the first floor of local businesses, boats were pushed onto the beach and Gulfport Beach was non-existent. Streets were flooded again during high tide on Tuesday.

Waters have receded and crews with the City of Gulfport have been out cleaning up the beach, parks and streets. However, more could be done to get Gulfport's beachfront back to normal for the annual 4th of July Celebration.

That's why Sandy Duffy, Volunteer Cordinator with the Gulfpport Merchants Association, is asking everyone to come out today from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. and help clean up the streets. People can sweep the sidewalks, clean off pavers, clear our flower beds . . . anything to make it look like Debby never came.
