OMG, It's Like Eating a Steak!

Neptune's Sous-Chef, Jose Garcia, rocks my cheating, raw-vegan world.

As some of you may be aware, three weeks ago I made the decision to recapture my youth and health by once again becoming a raw vegan. A couple of people have viewed it as an act of deprivation but I see it as an act of love. Besides, there are occasional exceptions to the life change like new restaurant openings. French fries or home-fries are one of those exceptions, up to once a day if I want. I have discovered that in the face of this allowance all other cravings dissolve.

You can imagine then that I take this fry or home-fry allowance very seriously. They have to be savory and meaty with lots of fry or sear crunch, yet not dry and diminished by the well-done cooking. Sous Chef, Jose Garcia at The Neptune Grill in Gulfport Florida at the corner of Beach and Shore Boulevards understood the importance of this exception dish. He made me the most delicious plate of home fries and he did it without using lots of grease.

Now, how healthy is shoveling down a plate of home fries? Considering my health has turned back to the positive and I've lost 16 pounds in 3 weeks. I'd say, it can't be all bad, especially in the face of deliciousness. They were seared with bright fresh green jalapeno slivers, topped with fresh sliced avocado and served with a side of warmed homemade salsa. The experience was one of pure decadence while the indulgence was, if not raw, completely vegetarian.

Thank you Neptune, Chef Tony and Sous-Chef Jose. Because of you, I can continue down the path sustained and fortified against temptations untold.
