2013 Annual Gulfport Youth Book Writing Awards, Opening Day!

The 2013 Annual Gulfport Youth Book Writing Workshop Series and Contest is gearing up for a Saturday, September 14, Opening Day of Ceremonies and Orientation at the Gulfport Public Library from 11am - 1pm. This will be followed by two outstanding skill-honing months'  of Fee-Free Saturday workshops on writing and editing with local pros.

On November 9, 2013, at the last workshop in the series, each attendee will submit a manuscript of 16 to 40 pages. A carefully chosen panel of Judges will review the submissions and select one winner from each grade category. This literary event is open to Grades 1 - 12: Public, Charter, Magnet, Bilingual, Private, Home-schooled, all are invited to participate. Winner's will be announced on November 16th, the Third Saturday Art Walk, at an evening Awards Presentation from 4pm - 6pm.


This is a Community funded and supported event with representation from the Pinellas School District, the Gulfport Public Library, the City of Gulfport, Gulfport Businesses, Art Community, and Residents. The event is produced by Trace Taylor Publishing, but it is a community-wide initiative to contribute to and support the education of Pinellas County youth.

One of the winning manuscripts, Barracuda's Curse by Isabella Kontrick, chosen for the 1st - 3rd grade category for 2012, was recently launched and can be found at Domain, 3129 Beach Blvd, where, on August 17th, the Third Saturday Art Walk, she will be signing copies. Please stop by and see this brilliant rising star, then enjoy our spectacular Art Walk, and local fare, provided by the event's supporters.

You can catch all three 2012 winners marching with Mayor Yakes, once retired, in the front of the Geckofest Parade on August 31st. These young writers love to discuss writing and sharing their experiences from the 2012 workshops and the professional editing experience of getting there book ready for press.
