"I'm very excited, I want my own wheel," Karen Asher exclaimed during her spinning class with Billie and Brennan Rodriguez with Funny Face Farms.

We're not talking about spinning on a bicycle inside a gym somewhere, this is an outdoor experience filled with good company and one-on-one attention.

Karen Asher, Beryl Heeren and Stella Vaughan Anderson each signed up for a 4-hour yarn-spinning course with Funny Face Farms during the Gulfport Fresh Market.

"This is fabulous." Beryl Heeren said.

Heeren creates dusters, vests and other casual one-of-a-kind clothing items. She says now she can create her own yarn too, making her designs completely unique.

"It's art to wear, funky," Heeren added.

Billie Rodriguez says the classes are broken into two 2-hour sessions on two consecutive Tuesdays. During the first class, students receive an introduction to spinning, learn about fober characteristics, drafting, hand/eye/feet coordination exercises and they start their first batch of yarn.

During class on the second week, students will learn beginning techniques, adding on wool, plying and skill refinement.

The second class for this group is on Tuesday, July 17 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. After that, Rodriguez says there's plenty of room for more classes to start on July 24.

To sign up for classes, visit Billie and Brennan at the Gulfport Tuesday Fresh Market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays or call Billie at (813) 428-2484 or email boogie5952yahoo.com. The open-air market is located on Beach Blvd. South below 29th Ave. South.

The cost for classes will be $15 per hour, or $60 for the entire four-hour course. To ensure individual attention, classes will be limited to four persons each.
