A recent letter to the commissioners following the interview by Bay News 9

Dear Elected Officials: On Sunday, July 28, 2013, a 14 second video clip was aired on Bay News 9 regarding the rezoning of the Tides Golf Course.
In the written statement from Taylor Morrison, it was stated by Tony Squirteri, “Due to the age of the golf course, it's operating and infrastructure replacement costs and surrounding competition, the bank and the community have to have a plan as to what happens to this area when the golf course closes. The bank has come to the conclusion that the property cannot be operated as a golf course in the future.”

Excuse me, but when was Wells Fargo elected by the community to make decisions regarding the use of land in Pinellas County? I was under the distinct impression that YOU, our elected leaders were the voices of the people of Pinellas County.

There have been investors interested in buying the Tides Golf Course and maintaining its status as a golf course. Why would Wells Fargo think that it has greater knowledge of our community’s needs than the elected officials and the citizens? It seems that it all comes down to greed. There is nothing noble or righteous about decimating wetlands to build more houses in an already “built-out” county. It is all about power and money.

We live in Pinellas County and deal with the positives as well as the negatives. Neither the developers nor Wells Fargo upper echelon live here or have any interest in it besides how much money they can get out of this “sweet deal”. When they have packed their carpet bags and moved off to inundate another place, we will be left with more congestion, strain on our water resources, and one less area for wild animal habitat.

Please do the right thing and stop this madness. Vote NO against rezoning the Tides Golf Course. YOU are our representatives- not Wells Fargo!

Sincerely,

MH (Neighbor and Advocate for The Tides)
