SAVING THE TIDES GOLF COURSE ISN'T ABOUT GOLF!!

STOP THE MADNESS … One thing Pinellas County doesn’t need is more HOUSING. The thought that we are going to start trading golf courses (green space) for more residential housing is criminal.  Once areas like the Tides are destroyed they are gone forever.  I personally golf at Tides many times during the month.  I actually learned to golf on that course.  Regardless of whether you are a golfer or not this is a serious issue for our county.  Wildlife is abundant at the Tides golf course and provides a place for these animals to live and breed.  The first time I took my 23 year old daughter there she couldn’t believe all of the birds, turtles, racoons, etc. that she saw in the wild.  One day at Tides and she was hooked on golf … a big part of that wasn’t the golf it was about being one with nature.  Pinellas County is turning into a big slab of concrete.  No one in their right mind is going to want to live and/or vacation here if we don’t stop this madness.

A recent visit to Sanibel Island brought back memories of my first visit to Pinellas County back in 1984 … it was heavenly – beautiful beaches, local small business retailers, sand parking lots, a cohesive community protecting its most valuable resource (nature).  Today as I drive down Gulf Blvd the condominiums block the view of the water, the small local businesses are few, … it is truly a sad affair.  Many of the beaches have lost their vacation appeal.

What is “our” future going to look like … destination Pinellas County – 1 golf course, bumper to bumper traffic, no public beaches, chain restaurants, NO NO NO.  Stop the insanity today … below are resources on how YOU can help spread the word and keep this from happening!!!
