New Director of Marina Operations

Harbormaster Denis Frain will soon be known as "Director of Marina Operations."

Denis Frain, along with other city employees, will soon receive new titles. Harbormaster will change to Director of Marina Operations and the Director of Information Technology and Library Administrator will be combined into a new position - Director of Library and Technology, if the ordinance passes during second reading. Also, the city's Human Resource position would also be reclassified.

Gulfport City Councilors unanimously passed the ordinance during first reading Tuesday night.

The changes will save the city $60,000.

Denis Frain's new position will be responsible for current lease agreements within the marina and development and construction of the expanded Casino Docks. Frain will also be in charge of the Phase I marina improvements scheduled for the coming fiscal year - budgeted at $880,000.

Phase I improvements include:

  • ship store/amenities/facilities = $670,000
  • long-term resident/transient/guest area = $45,000
  • 10 boat lifts = 100,000
  • Live-Aboard Imps. = $40,000
  • Marina Master Site Planning (phase 1) = $25,000

Total = $880,000

If the council approved installing a 25-ball mooring field, the project and future management will also be included under this position.

Council has to vote in favor of the ordinance during second reading for the changes to take affect.
