Teens Stole Samurai Sword, Gun From Gulfport Home, Police Say

Two St. Petersburg teens were arrested by Gulfport Police for stealing thousands of dollars in cash and weapons from a person they knew in Gulfport.

Two teens are jailed and awaiting trial for Armed Burglary and Grand Theft after allegedly stealing a Samurai Katana Sword, firearm and cash from a Gulfport home.

Kane Edward Brooks, 19, and Brittany Leann Hubbard, 18, were arrested on Thursday, Jan. 3, and booked into the Pinellas County Jail.

According to Gulfport Police, the two St. Petersburg teens broke into a home on the 900 block of Freemont St. S. in Gulfport, on Tuesday, Jan. 1.

No one was home at the time.

Two days later, Brooks and Hubbard were arrested for burglarizing the home. Officials say the suspects and victim knew one another.

Brooks and Hubbard were charged with stealing thousands of dollars in cash, a firearm, magazine, gun cleaning case, Samurai Katana Sword and golf clubs.

Sgt. Thomas Woodman says that officers recovered $3,597 from the suspects

It's believed that the suspects were unarmed during the burglary, but they became armed upon allegedly taking the gun and sword, Sgt. Thomas Woodman said in regards to the charges.

Bail is set at $50,000 on the charge of Armed Burglary and $5,000 for the charge of Grand Theft for both Kane Edward Brooks and Brittany Leann Hubbard.

Brooks was also arrested on a charge of Violation of Probation.
