Man Receives 50 Stitches During Fight Over Drugs, Police Say

A Gulfport man smashed beer bottles on another person's head, causing the victim to receive 50 stitches, police say.

Jesse Patrick Albertson, 27, of Gulfport, got into an argument over marijuana and a speaker system, attacked the victim and sent him to the hospital with internal bleeding, according to Pinellas County arrest reports.

Just after 7 a.m. on Sunday, July 28, Gulfport Police were called to the apartment on Shore Boulvard for a fight in progress. Once on scene, officers found blood all over the concrete outside and witness' pointed them to an upstairs apartment, according to the report. 

Officers found Albertson in the shower washing blood off his body, police say. 

According to the arrest report, the altercation began as a verbal argument that escalated when Albertson and two other males hit the victim over the back of his head with beer bottles. The victim was sent to St. Petersburg General Hospital and needed further medical care, police say. According to the report, one officer was told that the victim needed to be transported to another hospital with a neurosurgeon on duty "because the scan revealed bleeding in his front lobe of his brain."

Gulfport Police Sgt. Vandenberg told Albertson it was a good thing officers found the victim because he had major injuries. According to the report, "The suspect spontaneously stated back, 'I know I did that to him'."

Jesse Patrick Albertson is charged with battery; aggravated (with deadly weapon), a felony and possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor. Bail is set at $7,650 for both charges.
