Gulfport Police Collect 50 Pounds of Medications

Gulfport Police helped collect unused medications during the 8th Operation Medicine Cabinet in Pinellas County.

The 8th Operation Medicine Cabinet collected a total of 863.83 pounds of
prescription medications. Deputies say this was the second highest amount of
medication collected during a take-back event. (On August 27, 2011 the event
collected 1038.1 pounds.)

Overall, the Pinellas County OMC take-back events and drop-off containers have
collected 9,529.71 pounds since the program began in May 2009. (This does not
include the drop-off container weights for the month of September 2012.)

The four hour event was held at 9 locations throughout the county and included
the participation of 8 law enforcement agencies in all.

The event was held in conjunction with the DEAs National Take Back Day. The
breakdown of medication collected from each of the participating agencies is
as follows:

Pinellas SO - 145.9 pounds
(106.4 pounds - SAB)
(39.5 pounds - NDS)
Clearwater PD - 345 pounds
Largo PD - 145.54 pounds
Pinellas Park PD - 62.7 pounds
Gulfport PD - 50.94 pounds
St. Pete Beach PD - 18.3 pounds
Tarpon Springs PD - 63.45 pounds
St. Petersburg PD - 15 pounds

Deputies would like to thank LiveFree Coalition personnel, the Narcotics
Strategic Diversion Task Force Investigators, all the participating law
enforcement agencies and the North & South County CPO's for their assistance
in a successful operation.
