Drunken Drivers Targeted in Holiday Patrols

Pinellas County deputies will be on the lookout for 'impaired and reckless' driving.

If it seems like there are more Pinellas County deputies on the road this weekend, you're right.

Sheriff's deputies will beef up patrol efforts and keep a high profile through Jan. 1 with the goal of  cracking down on drunk driving. Deputies will target impaired and reckless driving.

"Deputies encourage citizens to designate a driver before they head out, or
call a cab. Staying away from behind the wheel after drinking saves lives," according to a written statement.

In addition, in a continuing effort to reduce DUI related injuries and educate
the public about the dangers of drinking and driving year-round, the Sheriff's
Office will continue to conduct DUI Checkpoints and Wolf Pack patrols
throughout the new year.
