Coast Guard Aids Cruise Ship Passenger Suffering Apparent Heart Attack

A 63-year-old Carnival Paradise passenger was medevaced by the Coast Guard to Fort DeSoto Saturday night.

A 63-year-old Carnival Paradise passenger was medevaced by the Coast Guard to Fort DeSoto and transferred to awaiting medical personnel and a local hospital.

A 45-foot boat with a crew from Coast Guard Station Cortez responded to the cruise ship, which was 12 miles west of the Tampa coast. 

The captain of the Carnival Paradise contacted Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders at 8:04 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, reporting the man was experiencing heart attack symptoms and required medical assistance. The Coast Guard removed the man from the cruise ship and rushed him to port.
