Video: First Dose of the Citizens Police Academy

Let the education begin! I'm participating in the Gulfport Police Department's Citizens Police Academy. Our class will learn everything from hiring a new officer to DUI investigations. Our program includes a ride along with an officer as well!

The Gulfport Police Department is giving everyday people an opportunity to learn about the department, inside and out. We'll cover policies, procedures, traffic stops and more. The Gulfport Police Department's Citizens Police Academy is completely voluntary and is comprised of an 8-week course designed to educate participants with classroom instruction and field demonstrations. We will meet from now until the end of July.

Check out my first "video blog" following the first class. Gulfport Police Chief Robert Vincent, Lt. Josh Stone and Sgt. Mary Farrand explained the hiring process, training procedures and accreditation process. Learn more about the staff on the Gulfport Police Department's website.

I hope to fill you in on what I've learned each week!
