Did you realize this about GULFPORT?

That only 14,000 taxpayers plus taxes from our businesses support all this:  LIBRARY, SENIOR CENTER, 4 AWARD WINNING PARKS, WATERFRONT RECREATON CTR., 2 BALL PARKS, 2 SKATE PARKS, 3 YACHT CLUBS (PASADENA FROWNS ON IDENTIFYING THAT THEY ARE IN FACT, IN GULFPORT),  A PRESTIOUS LAW SCHOOL, TWO BED & BREAKFASTS, A NEIGHBORHOOD CENTER, A MILLION $$ PERFORMING ART CENTER PLUS A COMMUNITY PLAYERS CTR., A CASINO (GATHERING PLACE) 2 OR 3 MARINAS, LONG FISHING PIER, FLOATING DOCKS, A MOORING FIELD, AN INDUSTRIAL ARTS BUILDING, 6 CHURCHES, PLAYGROUND, BOCCE BALL COURT, PICNIC PAVILLIONS AT THE BEACH, ADULT SWINGS FOR 'TWO',  3 OR 4 SCHOOLS, AND A LOT MORE INCLUDING THE FACT THAT GULFPORT IS IN THE TOP SIX SMALL TOWN RESTAURANTS FOR GOOD FOOD!!  I do not think there are many towns in America that can brag all that.  The spanish were smart to pick us for one of the first PORTS in west coast florida.  There has not been a direct hit since 1920 when we lost maybe two buildings and the tressle that held the trolley which went out on the water alongside the Casino.  A little flooding yes, but we are protected (and so were their boats) by the fact that we are in a small Bay which empties to a larger Tampa Bay and then into the Gulf.  How smart they were.....and that attributed to our present name of GULFPORT.  We had a couple other names first, but Gulfport truly is most fitting. Other than a storm attacking the tree in front of Yummy's last week, Gulfport fares VERY well in storms.  A big gust of wind about 5 weeks ago took my old umbrella....and then a week ago a wind brought it back!!!   too late,  l had already bought a new one.  Does anyone want an old but functional table umbrella??
