Gulfport Doctor Killed in Skydiving Incident

A well-known family doctor from Gulfport has died in a skydiving incident that is now under investigation. She had practiced in St. Petersburg for three decades.

A well-known Gulfport physician has died in a skydiving accident, according to news reports.

Dr. Theresa Elaine McLaughlin, 60, of Gulfport died while skydiving on New Year's Day in Zephyrhills, according to TampaBay.com.

McLaughlin was in family practice at Suncoast Medical Clinic in St. Petersburg, according to the news report. She had been a doctor for 34 years.

She was a graduate of the University of South Florida College of Medicine. She did her residency in family practice at Bayfront Medical Center in 1981.

Zephyrhills police are releasing few details of the incident. McLaughlin died as a result of trauma, according to a medical exmainer's report.
