GeckoFest

The 14th Annual Geckofest will take over Gulfport’s
scenic waterfront village on Saturday,
August 30th
, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. along Beach Boulevard.  Break out your best “Charleston” dance moves!  “Roaring Geckos” will
be the theme of this year’s event.  The “Roaring Geckos” theme will evoke
the Roaring Twenties. Expect to experience costumes celebrating flappers, hair
bobs, Charlie Chaplin, The Great Gatsby, Guys and Dolls, the Jazz
Age, Louis Armstrong, Rudolph Valentino, Art Deco and many other touchstones of
the 1920s era.  This quirky family friendly street festival has
become one of Tampa Bay’s most anticipated annual celebrations.  Combining the artistic energy of Gulfport
with the colorful flair of Mardi Gras, Geckofest includes live music on two main
stages, over 200 art, craft and food vendors, children’s activities, street
performers and costumed characters.  A
costume contest and parade, a thrilling fire and acrobatics show, and the
famous street dance round out a fun-filled day for the whole family.  There
is no admission charge for any of the day’s festivities.

Geckofest is hosted by the Gulfport Merchants Association
and is sponsored by the following supporters: The City of Gulfport, Bright
House Networks, Tampa Bay Times, tbt*, Cox Media (The Eagle 107.3 & wduv
105.5), GEICO, Yelp, WMNF, Nestle/Zephyrhills, Resort Property Promotions,
Beachlife and The Lazy Pirate. A
portion of proceeds from all three Gecko events will once again benefit a local
non-profit group, as well as the commission of a public art installation.
