Sandbags in Gulfport

The City of Gulfport will have sandbags available at City Hall on Friday.

Emergency officials are urging people to prepare for Tropical Storm Isaac. The Tampa Bay area lies in the five-day forecast zone, with the latest projections placing the storm just west of southwest Florida by Monday.

Gulfport City officials are setting up a sandbag station in the parking lot at Gulfport City Hall, 2401 53rd St. S., on Friday at 1 p.m. Residents will have to prove residency.

Staff will provide sand, bags and a bagging station for residents to make their own bags.

When Tropical Storm Debby hit Gulfport, heavy rains, rough waves and tidal surges flooded Gulfport Beach, Shore Boulevard and a few downtown businesses. If residents are concerned about flooding, they are urged to pick up sandbags on Friday after 1 p.m.
