Sandbags in Gulfport

The City of Gulfport will have sandbags available at City Hall on Friday.

Emergency officials are urging people to prepare for Tropical Storm Isaac. The Tampa Bay area lies in the five-day forecast zone, with the latest projections placing the storm just west of southwest Florida by Monday.

Gulfport City officials are setting up a sandbag station in the parking lot at Gulfport City Hall, 2401 53rd St. S., on Friday at 1 p.m. Residents will have to prove residency.

Staff will provide sand, bags and a bagging station for residents to make their own bags.

When Tropical Storm Debby hit Gulfport, heavy rains, rough waves and tidal surges flooded Gulfport Beach, Shore Boulevard and a few downtown businesses. If residents are concerned about flooding, they are urged to pick up sandbags on Friday after 1 p.m.

For more information call 727-893-1089. The City of Gulfport has provided an informational video on how to pack the bags on youtube, we have attached the video to this story.

Tomorrow is the day to prepare. If you wait unitl Sunday we will being the stress in your voice. Theresa and I are making our third shopping list. The first two about survival, this one more about how to be most comfortable in August with no electicity for five days. If Debbie caused you any grief, you will hopefully realize what is "likely" to happen in a couple days or so. If Isaac is a hurricane, we may have a historic Gulfport event at out door knocking already. A lot of respectable predictions are agreeing the storm will pass by in our area on late Monday. How intense is the question. It could be as little as nothing...

Yea, Monday is the day. Everthing good will be sold out by then. Hopefully Isaac will be another laughable event! Monday, I plan to get some rest and handle issues as they come up. Tuesday might be clean up and repair. If not, cool with me! :)
