This morning’s sunshine was just a tease.
Gulfport joins the rest of Pinellas County in a flood watch as storms continue to move through the area.
According to the National Weather Service, tropical moisture is combining with a stalled front to create a wet Friday with a strong possibility for “numerous thunderstorms,” gusty winds and frequent lightning. Heavy rain is expected throughout the afternoon and into the evening hours.
Rain is also a strong possibility on Saturday. Forecasters are calling for a 70 percent chance of showers during the daytime hours. Things will clear out a bit going into Saturday night and Sunday morning.
Due to all the rain this week, Pinellas County is officially under a flood watch, the National Weather Service reports.
“Significant river flooding is not anticipated through Friday, however, caution is advised along small creeks and storm drainage basins as localized flooding could occur," according to the advisory report.
As many of us know, when heavy rain comes down on Gulfport, many low lying streets flood. Check out our storm photos following a thunderstorm in late May in the story "Downpour Floods Streets in Gulfport."
