5 Things to Know Today: Registration Deadline, Clam Bayou Dedication, Newton's Haunts

Newton's Haunts open tonight, registration deadline today for city wide yard sale and more in "5 Things to Know Today."

Registration Deadline: You have until 4:30 p.m. today, Friday, to register for the city wide yard sale on Saturday, Nov. 3. Just email Justin Shea, the new Technical Events Specialist, at jshea@mygulfport.us or fill out the attached form and drop it off at Gulfport City Hall or the Gulfport Public Library.

Newton's Haunts: Be sure to stop by Newton's Haunts at the 5600 block of Newton Ave S. There are two haunted houses. Watch the attached video and hear from Nolan Sloan with "The Midway." Stop by for a good scare and help a good cause. Sloan says they're asking for $2 per person to help raise money for the Fire Explorers Post 945. There's also a special bonus this year! For $5 you can go through the haunted house with a firefighter. So, if there's any ladies out there who's affraid to go in alone, donate a little more and get an escort to help you through. Sanitarium is open from 7:30 - 10 p.m. and the Midway is open 7:30 - 10:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26 and Saturday, Oct. 27.

Clam Bayou Dedication: St. Petersburg, the Southwest Florida Water Management District and the city of Gulfport will dedicate the Clam Bayou Restoration and Skyway Trail at a ceremony at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, Clam Bayou, 4255 34th Ave. S. The Clam Bayou Restoration and Stormwater Treatment Project marks the final step in a multi-agency effort to restore 64 acres of estuarine and coastal habitats and create 20 acres of ponds to treat stormwater runoff from the 2,600-acre surrounding area.

Shopapalooza: Mark your calendars for the annual Shopapalooza at South Straub Park in St. Petersburg on Saturday, Nov. 17. Admission is free and open to the public. The event will feature retail stores, restaurants and service providers; more than 2,000 people are expected to attend. Learn all about the event in the announcement, "Shopapalooza 2012."
