New Island Ferry Is Making Waves

The Island Ferry offers service between downtown St. Pete and Pass-a-Grille. Check out the views in this video.

The Island Ferry – traveling between downtown St. Pete and Pass-a-Grille Beach – is fully operational.

You can check out the Facebook Page for Island Ferry for the details.

Although Island Ferry is new, it is proving to be popular – and not just with tourists. Locals love the ferry, too. The ferry travels between the St. Petersburg Municipal Marina and the Pass-a-Grille Marina. Should the ferry come to Gulfport, too?

The company also has implemented some sound eco-policies: "Island Ferry boat crews will stop our vessels to pick up empty bottles and other trash on the water.
The waters around St Pete are beautiful, but we need to keep them that way," the company said on its Facebook page.

According to TBO.com, "For $25 roundtrip, Island Ferry will take small groups of travelers in pontoon boats across Tampa Bay, beneath the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and drop them off a few blocks from the beach."

The Island Ferry also recently announced new service, the Egmont History Adventure. Take a ride to Egmont Key State Park for a guided tour through the island's rich history.

In St. Pete, the ferry docks near Fresco's restaurant. In Pass-a-Grille, the boat docks next to the Wharf Seafood Restaurant. Plans are to expand service to Anna Maria Island. There also have been talks about a stop in Gulfport.
