Gigi's Is Closing Saturday in South Pasadena

The restaurant lost business as stores emptied out of the South Pasadena Shopping Center.

The family-owned Gigi's Restaurant, 6852 Gulfport Blvd., in South Pasadena is closing its doors Saturday, after 45 years.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that there is not enough business in the largely empty South Pasadena Shopping Center to support keeping the restaurant open.

Gigi's was founded by Vergil and Dot Newberne, who have since passed their business along to their son and daughter. The family also operates Gigi's restaurants on St. Pete Beach, Treasure Island and in St. Petersburg. Those places will stay in business.
