Tyrone Square Mazda Presents The Tangerine Blues Fest

This year's Tangerine Blues Fest will be held on Saturday, September 29 on an outdoor stage at 49th Street and Tangerine Ave. So. (18th Ave. So.) Admission is free. So is parking. The concert is produced by the 49th Street South Business Association (so49.org). Last year's show drew nearly 6,000 people to the quaint, tree-lined stretch of grass to bask in blues, beer, food and fun.

Firebrand singer/guitarist Sean Chambers headlines this year's festival. The homegrown product has toured with guitar legend Hubert Sumlin and carved out a substantial career on the international blues scene. In 2001, Great Britain's Guitarist magazine named him one of the Fifty Greatest Guitarists of All Time. Also appearing on the bill will be Gulfport's own Blues Hall of Famer Sterling Magee, gritty R&B singer Betty Fox, and Tampa-based No Money Down. Gates will open at 3 p.m. Live music runs until 10.

Signifying the TBF's growth, Tyrone Square Mazda has signed on as title sponsor, making the event's official name "Tyrone Square Mazda Presents the Tangerine Blues Festival." Newchannel 8 (WFLA-TV) has joined as media sponsor. Other sponsors are the City of Gulfport and the City of St. Petersburg.
So49.org is an association of 23 independent business owners dedicated to promoting commerce and culture on the historic strip that runs from Central Avenue to Boca Ciega Bay on 49th Street South.
