Geckofest: 'Get Your Gecko On' in Gulfport!

Mermaids in Gulfport, say what!

That's right, the 13th Annual Geckfest will feature performing artists including mermaids, magicians, jugglers, acrobats, fire dancers and more.

Celebrate the end of summer in Gulfport on Saturday, August 31. The free family-friendly event runs from 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. on Beach Boulevard in Gulfport.

Organizers describe the annual event as a "Mardi Gras meets the Renaissance where strolling street characters, stage musicians, performing artists and merchants with all types of weird and wonderful wares come together and captivate the crowds throughout the waterfront district," according to the official Geckofest website.

There will also be a Kids Zone provided by Spotlight Amusements. And guests can participate in the walking parade at 5:30 in front of the Gulfport Casino Ballroom. 

Costume categories include best themed costume, best decorated hat and best overall, for both children and adults. Prizes include “trophies” created by local artist Owen Pach.

The day culminates in Gulfport’s famous Street Dance at 8:00 pm, featuring The Urban Gypsies. Bring your beach chairs and dancing shoes, and help celebrate!

This family friendly event is presented by the Gulfport Merchants Association and sponsored by The City of Gulfport, The Gulfport Chamber of Commerce, SO49, Florida Re-bath, Tobacco Free America, Gulfport Patch, Geico, Tampa Bay Times, tbt* and Cox Media Group and there is no admission fee for a full day of fun for everyone.
