The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch through Wednesday night for the entire Tampa Bay region, including Gulfport.

A flood watch means that it’s possible flooding will occur in the next 24 to 36 hours.

The watch went up as the “miserable” weather forecasters predicted moved into the Bay area Monday. Rainfall has already added up to 4 to 6 inches in some areas in the last 24 hours as a stalled front sits over the region, according to the weather service’s website.

“Additional heavy rainfall amounts are expected through Wednesday (Sept. 25),” forecasters say. At this time, it is anticipated another 3 to 5 inches will fall as the front makes its way through the Bay.

Residents in flood prone areas are being asked to take measures to protect their properties. Motorists should also exercise caution on the roads as localized flooding is possible.

Meteorologist Andrew McKaughan warned on Monday that bad weather was heading our way.

“It’s going to be wet,” he said. “We’re expecting quite a bit of rainfall going into Thursday. It’s definitely going to be miserable.”
