Volunteer Event Saturday at Clam Bayou

Help clean up Clam Bayou on Saturday, Oct. 20. Here's what you need to know about the Great American Cleanup in Gulfport!

Shopping carts, lawn furniture, car tires and other debris - large and small - have been pulled from Clam Bayou over the years and efforts like the Great American Cleanup encourage friends, families and neighbors to get out, get dirty and grab some garbage.

Join in this bi-annual event and help make Clam Bayou, Boca Ciega Bay and the Gulf of Mexico cleaner, one bag at a time.

The City of Gulfport is asking anyone willing to help to meet at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20 at Clam Bayou Nature Park (49th St. to 29th Ave S. east to Miriam St.)

Volunteers can help by picking up trash on the trails or in the water, if you're able to bring your own kayak or canoe. Officials note that the kayak launch at Clam Bayou is closed for construction through Dec. 23. However, they can be launched at the Gulfport Municipal Marina.

Be sure to sign in at the volunteer tent the day of the event to get your supplies. The City of Gulfport staff will be on hand. For more information, call Bob Williams at 727-893-1066.
