Sunday Sunset: 'Gulls and Herons Waking Up'

We want to see your photos! We know we live in paradise and part of that is enjoying a beautiful sunset everyday. We want you to send in your sunset photos from around the area and every Sunday, we'll share it on Gulfport Patch.

Welcome to your Sunday Sunset, a weekly photo feature that reminds us to take a moment and appreciate what it means to live in Gulfport.

Patch reader and local photographer Rob Fowler uploaded several photos in our "Gulfport Pics & Clips" neighborhood gallery, as well as in our first Facebook Cover Photo Contest! This week, I chose a sunrise photo uploaded by Rob.

What I love about this photo is the caption. I can almost hear the birds waking up and the fish moving about because of your description of the photo.

As always, thanks for sharing Rob!

If you would like to submit a photo for our next "Sunday Sunset", email it to the editor at cherlene.willis@patch.com or upload a photo in our "Gulfport Pics & Clips" gallery on the homepage.

I love sunsets, with the dramatic edges and shadows of late day thunderstorms or clouds on the western horizon, but the sounds of a quiet sunrise make the dawn experience special. One of the qualities of a sunrise include the early morning people who are fishing, jogging, walking, or otherwise find that purpose in life to be awake when everybody else is sleeping in bed. There is no time in Gulfport when life is more peaceful, and we few who are out with eyes open and ears in tune with nature receive an amazing treat. It is worth coming out at sunrise as it sets the pace for the day. It is hard to forget the sights and sounds of Earth one experiences before the human 9-5 kicks in as one goes through the day.
