Want to Help Feed Parrot Sanctuary Birds?

A local rescue group needs your help feeding its birds after the recent passing of the birds chief caregiver.

Feathered friends from a local bird rescue organization visit the Gulfport Fresh Market each week. Maybe you have seen Captain, the parrot, and other rescued birds?

Gulfport Patch learned today from the market's Laura Garrison of the recent  passing of Robert "Captain Tut" Barrett, President of the Pinellas Suncoast Parrot Sanctuary.

Barrett, who was known as the 'Bird Guy,' worked with the birds for more than 40 years, according to the sanctuary's web site.

About 74 birds of all sizes are cared for at the sanctuary, which requires almost $200 in feed each week, according to Garrison's post on Patch.
