Heroes Weekend: What You Need to Know

The second annual Heroes Weekend kicks off tonight with a casino night at the Gulfport Casino Ballroom. Here's what you need to know about all of the weekend events!

Vegas Style Fundraiser

  • When: Thursday, Nov. 8
  • Where: Gulfport Casino Ballroom
  • Time: 7:30 - 10:30 p.m. (Doors open at 7 p.m.)
  • Tickets: $20, $35 in advance; $25 at the door

The Gulfport Casino Ballroom will turn into a high-stakes gambling casino with Vegas style games including poker, blackjack, roulette, craps, slot machines and Texas hold'em. Enjoy auctions, hors d'oeuvres, a full cash bar and live music. Proceeds benefit the Small Business Mentor Program at the Gulfport Area Chamber of Commerce and the Gulfport Multipurpose Senior Center Foundation.

Veterans with I.D. cards get an extra $500 in ‘play money’ at the door.

Veteran's Day Parade

  • When: Saturday, Nov. 10
  • Where: Parade to travel south on Beach Boulevard to the Gulfport Casino Ballroom
  • Time: 4 p.m.

Find a spot on Beach Boulevard by 4 p.m. on Saturday and cheer on participants. There will be dozens of floats including Engine 17 with the Gulfport Fire Department and The American Legion Andy Anderson Post 125.

Beach Volleyball Benefit

  • When: Sunday, Nov. 11
  • Where: Gulfport Beach
  • Time: 1 p.m.

VETSports vs. Gulfport Police and Gulfport Fire Inaugural Beach Volleyball Benefit will be held with proceeds from this event donated to the Tampa family of fallen soldier Major David Taylor and Wounded Veterans of VETSports.

Immediately following the volleyball matches, an aerial photo will be taken of the human-chain spelling of GULFPORT, FL on the beach. Please come out and joint he chain!

Steel Horse Benefit Concert

  • When: Sunday, Nov 11
  • Time: 7 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.)
  • Where: Gulfport Casino Ballroom
  • Tickets: $10

The American Legion Post 125 is hosting a dance on Sunday evening, November 11, to celebrate Veteran's Day at the Casino with live band, Steel Horse. Guests can buy advanced tickets at the Gulfport Area Chamber of Commerce or The American Legion Post 125.

Proceeds from the events will go to the Stetson Veterans Law Institute (assists veterans with legal issues at no cost), Paws for Patriots and other Veteran charities.
