Dallas Bohrer Receives Spirit of Gulfport Award

Dallas Bohrer, founder of The Blueberry Patch, received the Spirit of Gulfport Award by the Gulfport City Council.

Gulfport Mayor Mike Yakes presented the Spirit of Gulfport Award to Dallas Bohrer Tuesday night. Bohrer is the founder of The Blueberry Patch and was nominated for the award by Vice Mayor Sam Henderson.

Henderson thanked Bohrer for his efforts and stated that The Blueberry Patch has been around for 35 years and has been in Gulfport for more than 15 of those years.

“The Blueberry Patch is a peace-loving community of artists, writers and musicians. The Blueberry Patch is a location for the freedom of music, art, written word and performance,” Henderson said.

Henderson says the patch is a place of personal growth and acceptance.

When the Mayor presented the award, a crowd of Bohrer's friends and supporters cheered him on and Bohrer smiled from cheek to cheek.

What a great way to be recognized! I have thoroughly enjoyed many gatherings at the Patch.
