Today in Gulfport: Fresh Market, Comedy Magic Show, Banned Books

It's Tuesday, Sept. 24! Here's what you need to know today in Gulfport.

Gulfport Fresh Market: Since we have a 70 percent chance of heavy rain, the Gulfport Fresh Market will update vendors and guests on their Facebook page by 6 a.m. this morning if they plan to open like usual or cancel due to Mother Nature. "Like" them on Facebook to get the latest information about the local market.

Ballroom Dancing: Since we are expected to get wet today, consider heading indoors for a dance lesson at the Gulfport Casino Ballroom. Ballroom lessons are just $7 per person and begin with Intermediate lessons at 12, Beginner lessons at 1 p.m. and open Ballroom Dancing at 2 p.m. 

Banned Books Week: That's right - Sept. 22 - Sept. 28 is Banned Books Week. Did you know, more than 11,000 books have been challenged since 1982 - the founding year of Banned Books Week. You can stop by the Gulfport Public Library to check out some of these "banned books." For more information about popular books on this list check out www.bannedbooksweek.org.

Comedy Magic Show: People of all ages are invited to a Comedy Magic Show with Cesar Domico at the Catherine Hickman Theater on Thursday, Sept. 26 from 8 - 10 p.m. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online on this website. 

Grab Your Rain Boots: That's right! We have a 70 percent chance of heavy rain today. Otherwise, it'll be cloudy with a high near 87. According to the National Weather Service, we may see southwest winds between 9 and 18 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
