It's Tuesday, Oct. 8! Here's what you need to know today in Gulfport!

"Dine on Words:" Everyone is invited to "Dine on Words," a dinner fundraiser for the 2013 Gulfport Youth Book Writing Contest and Workshops tonight from 5 - 8 p.m. at Tangelo's. For more information about the event, check out this post on Gulfport Patch.

Free Clothing Swap: The Gulfport Tuesday Fresh Market has extended it's hours for the fall season. Come out from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Tuesday. Also, this Tuesday - organizers will be holding the monthly clothing swap between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. at Beach Blvd. and 30th Ave S. “Bring in up to 5 garments to exchange for free with other swap participants or purchase vouchers for $3 each to select clothing. Extra clothing donations encouraged. All proceeds and remaining clothing benefit CASA (Community Action Stops Abuse).”

"Save the Manatee:" The Gulfport Public Library is hosting an all ages educational event tonight, Oct. 8, from 4 - 5 p.m. The free event will include an educational presentation by the national "Save the Manatee Club."

Rate Florida’s Troopers: Have an opinion on how the Florida Highway Patrol is doing? If so, the agency wants to hear from you. FHP is conducting an online survey asking residents for their opinions on trooper professionalism, service and overall safety on the roads. Check it out here.

Drier Weather Likely: Monday’s wet start to the workweek doesn’t look like it was the start of a trend. Forecasters say we have about a 20 percent chance for isolated showers today, Oct. 8. Look for a high around 90.
