Today in Gulfport: Budget Hearings, Singing at Gulfport Beach, Property Tax Woes

It's Wednesday, Sept. 4! Here's what you need to know today in Gulfport.

Budget Hearings: Gulfport City Councilors will be holding two public budget hearings to hear from you before final adoption of the Operating Budget for FY 2013/14. The first hearing is on Wednesday, September 4 at 7 p.m. at Gulfport City Hall. The second will be held on Wednesday, September 18, also at 7 p.m.

Sing and Dance at Gulfport Beach:
That's right! Dave & Cookie are back and they're inviting everyone to join them at Pavilion #6 on Gulfport Beach at 1 p.m. on Thursday Sept. 5! For more info, check out the event in our free community calendar on Gulfport Patch.

Thank You Cards to the Community: We are super excited to see a few "thank you's" in our new community board section on Gulfport Patch. New business SunSno posted a special thanks and so did The "G" Spot Gourmet Tapas and Gelato! Keep them coming!

Property Tax Woes for Pinellas County?:
A brouhaha is brewing between Pinellas and Pasco county officials over a delinquent tax bill of almost $60,000, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Pinellas owns nearly 12,500 acres of land in Pasco purchased long ago for its water supply. The land, known as the Cross Bar and Al Bar ranches, is now used for agricultural purposes. After years of paying taxes on the land, Pinellas has decided to stop, citing exemptions. Pasco begs to differ and wants its cash. How do you think the issue should be resolved?

Rain Back in the Forecast:
The relatively dry streak from over the long Labor Day weekend just might be over. Forecasters at the National Weather Service are calling for a 40 percent chance of rain today, Sept. 4. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to creep up mostly afternoon. Even with the rain, expect it to get hot – very hot. A high around 91 is anticipated and the heat index might just climb to about 100 out there!
